turning 30

i woke up this morning with the puffiest eyes i've ever seen on myself. Then i remembered, tomorrow I'm 30. It's not 30's fault my eyes are puffy, it's my fault for not getting enough sleep, but that's how the puffy eyes catch up with you if you're not careful.

I went to work to find a great big foofey starbucks sitting waiting for me along with a "birthday boy" sash and the hugest letter D i've ever seen attached to a rope, i got to put it on (flava-flav style) it was mostly a show for the kids in our school, they got to have some fun seeing me be a spectacle and i got to have my birthday a day early. Very nice surprises!

people always ask you if you feel older on your birthday, i know that sometimes i ask that same dumb question. but i've never once felt older in my whole life. I've always felt like the youngin of the group, i wonder if that'll ever change when i'm 80? Then i think i won't feel old, i'll just be glad i'm still kickin it.

Someone remarked today that people don't take you seriously until you're 30. I thought that was strange of her to say being that i am not yet 30 (1 hr 38 min to go). Maybe she was trying to let me know I'm a joke... which i am, so no offense was taken.

it just occurred to me, 30 is half of a clock face. my life could be half over, it could be 3/4 over, it could be 30/31 over...

What is this post all about? Not sure, i guess i'm trying to figure out if this is a big deal, turning 30... everyone else thinks it is, but i'm not so sure. I'll be sure to tell you how it goes.

oooh i just thought of one difference... when i get on the machines at the gym and have to enter my weight and age, it defaults to 35, so that means i have to push one less button to get it on the right age... maybe that's where all the hype comes from.

(BTW, how pathetic is this? commenting on my own post)

You're just turning 30? Dang, now I feel old! I've only got 2.5 years on you, but 30 feels like it was forever ago.

Now, as for the self post that isn't in response to someone's comment is a bit sad. For that you're going to be penalized an additional 10 years and are now an honorary 40!

I felt I had to post just to keep your post company!

Actually turning 30 was a bit weird for me as well last month. But I think for me it was associated with finally growing up since the baby will be coming and I was unable to even have wine on my birthday! I felt very much like my youth was gone!

But I do think you said someone else said about no one takes you serious until you are 30, is sort of right. At least being 30 now, when I hear someone is in there 20's it does sound WAY younger. So you can starting being all OLD and wise now! Isn't that exciting?!?!

Ahhh...wish I could remember 30! :)

You're just getting up to full speed, D, and God willing, there'll be so much excitement in your life for the next 30 years, you'll look back wondering what all the excitement was about with just reaching 30! He's blessed you with so much, I'm guessing He's got a lot in store for you!

So, I hope you're enjoying every minute of it, and wish you God's richest blessings for the next 30...and the next 30 after that. You're not allowed to feel old until your kids' kids start helping you up from a chair or better yet, pushing your chair at Disney World.

God bless!

I Timothy 4:12(and you are still young from my perspective)

Fortunately, the number 30 does not reflect how much wisdom you have, your I.Q. or your spiritual maturity. It is just the number after 29. Enjoy the journey! It's a gift from the One who created you.

HAHA! It's nice to know you're not that far behind me. lol. I hit 3-0 in October. It was nothing really -- although everyone tried to make me feel like it was a big deal (that happens when you work with youth/young adults -- 30 is officially "old", and they aren't afriad to remind me daily :)).

Anyhow, funny you should mention it, cuz I never thought it was an issue BEFORE I was 30, but it DOES seem like I'm considered more truly "adult" and respected more, by even the "older" people in the church.... they listen to what I say.. they want to know what I think... etc... maybe I'm just imagining a change, or maybe I have changed.... maybe a little bit of all of those..

all that do say: I LOVE YOU MAN! happy birthday!! welcome to adulthood! haha.. just kidding
